TR VR UN Boardwalk Experience

A virtual reality game based on the 17 UN Global Sustainable Development Goals

The TR VR game was part of a larger project where I served as artist in residence for Toms Rivers Digital Arts academy, in conjunction with The AIE Program which was co-founded by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. With additional support from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Over the course of 9 months, through a combination of in person workshops and remote development sessions we were able to concept, design, and develop a prototype virtual reality game for the Oculus Quest 2. Working roughly with a combination of approximately 30 students, and 2 direct support staff, design thinking workshops helped solidify the project concept.

Overall, the project and concept was very community focused. With the students choosing to create a scavenger hunt experience at their local boardwalk for the game setting. Throughout the game, the player was challenged with completing small tasks, while learning about various UN Global Sustainable Development Goals. And through a combination of posters, and 3D scavenger hunt items, the player is able to learn more about what matters to the TR community, and how they interpret the UN Sustainable Development Goals at a local level.
